Swim Tests @ Baxter YMCA on 6/25

swim-test

Everyone going to summer camp this year needs to be at the Baxter YMCA at 7PM on Thursday, June 25th to complete their swim test.

The swim test will help to establish your swimming skills and abilities so you can be correctly classified as a Non-Swimmer, Beginner or Swimmer.   For your safety, the portion of the swimming area that you’re allowed to enjoy will be directly related to your abilities.

There may be another swim test scheduled later, but there is no gaurantee.   If you are unable to take your swim test prior to camp, you will be able to take one upon arrival at Raven Knob.

Keep Matthew H in your prayers

Long before many of you wake up on Monday the 22nd of June, Matthew H will have already been in surgery for a while.     He will be having a proceedure to correct the formation of his chest cavity.   It is called the Nuss Procedure and will keep his ribs and sternum from pressing in on his heart and lungs as he continues to mature. Matthew H Selected As Next ASPL

Congratulations to Matthew H. who was selected by a vote of the scouts present to be the next ASPL for the troop.

Thanks to all of our scouts who stepped up to offer themselves as our next ASPL. Unfortunately, only one scout could be selected.

Scouts Pick Green Ink on Tan Shirts – Your Sizes Needed

At the June 8th troop meeting, those present voted, almost unanimously, for the tan shirt with green ink.

Each scout that wants a shirt will be asked to submit an order form with their name and correct size on it.   Scouts attending summer camp will get one shirt for “free” as part of their summer camp costs.

Adults and scouts not attending camp can purchase as many shirts as they wish for $10 each using the form to indicate the appropriate size.   Scouts attending camp can also order extra shirts, using the same form, for $10 each (with payment being submitted with the form).

Deadline for submitting the order form is at the troop meeting on June 22nd. After that date, scouts not submitting an order form, with payment where applicable, will not be able to get a shirt..

Like Green and Tan? You’re In Luck!

Troop 108 65th Anniversary Emblem

The tradition of getting a new troop T-shirt while at summer camp will continue again this year.   A 65th Anniversary logo which plays off of the design of the 50th anniversary logo from 1994 has been developed and is ready to be screen printed onto shirts for our members.

This year each member will order a specific size shirt in order to make sure that everyone gets a shirt that isn’t too big or doesn’t allow for some growing room. (more…)

Troop Elections

rock-the-voteWe will be electing the new Asst. Senior Patrol Leader of the troop on June 15th.   Those interested should be at least Star rank and 13 years old and have spoken with the Scoutmaster and have gotten his approval to seek this office prior to the 15th.

On June 15th, those interested in becoming ASPL will each have a few minutes to speak to the troop about why they would be a good choice for this troop leadership position.   Candidates should be careful not to speak badly about anyone else running against them, but are encouraged to be positive about why they are the best choice.

Everyone should remember that the ASPL’s job is a 12 month committment.   Six months will be served as ASPL while the youth leader gets a better feel for leading the troop, and then six months as the troop’s highest youth leader, the Senior Patrol Leader.

Patrols will keep their current leadership until the school starts back in the fall.   At that time we will hold patrol-level elections.

Court of Honor Reminder

Court of Honor

Don’t forget that June 1st is the troop’s summer Court of Honor. This is a time when we can publicly announce each boy’s achivements over the past 6 months.

Each family is asked to bring a snack (chips, cookies or some other finger food) or a two-liter drink to Unity Presbyterian’s Family Life Center (not Unity Hall where the troop meets on Monday nights) before the event.

Our parent’s meeting will occur in the church sanctuary at 7PM (during this time scouts should report in full uniform to our regular meeting place) and the Court of Honor will begin promptly at 7:30PM. Parents are encouraged to wear their parents ribbon as a proud display of their son’s achievements.

Following the Court of Honor we will move to Unity’s Family Life Center for a reception with snacks, conversation and a slideshow of pictures from the troop’s scouting events.
