It is that time of year again, time to make plans for our summer camp experience. This year, the boys have chosen to attend summer camp at Camp Bud Schiele in Rutherfordton, NC. We’ll be attending from July 1st through July 7th, 2012.
Base cost for summer camp is $220 (we may be able to reduce this by $10 if we get our first payment in on time). There may be other costs associated with specific classes that your scout might choose to attend as well (these will be indicated in the Merit Badge Planner document below).
To make the cost as painless as possible, we’ve set up a payment schedule where you can pay $20 on each of the Monday nights listed below and in no time, summer camp will be paid for – well before it is time to leave for camp. Here are the payment dates:

Troop 108 had some members attend the fantastic weekend-long Carolinas Indian Seminar in Statesville, NC this past weekend. As it turns out, with all of the rain, it was a good weekend for indoor scouting related activities. Pictured below are Dallas S. and Brent L. in their Native American regalia.

Check out the event site for the York District Merit Badge College for the latest and greatest information on the event which is coming up on February 4th, 11th and 18th, 2012.

Any Scouts who have not paid their annual dues of $45 by Thursday, January 12th, 2012 will not be registered as a member of Troop 108. In the past, the troop has fronted the money for scouts who had not paid in time, and often times the scouts never paid. We can no longer afford to do this.
Please contact Mrs. Donna Lowney to arrange to drop off your dues, or you may drop them off in an envelope with her name on it in the office of Springfield Middle School through Thursday.

Den Chief training will be Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 4:00pm.
The training will be held at the Scout House and will last about 3-4 hours. Food and drinks will be provided.
This training is open to all Scouts who may be interested in becoming a Den Chief in the future. If possible, the
Scouts should complete both Youth Protection and Den Chief Fast Start Training online at www.scouting.org before the class. The pack will need copies of their completion certificates. Also, the Den Chief Handbook is a great reference and will be referred to during the training.
Please RSVP to Denise Kugler by Friday, January 13th either to 803-242-2184 voice mail or e-mail Denise at “kugler72 at yahoo.com”.
Class A uniform is recommended.
Michael Wagner, a local scout who is working on his Eagle Project, needs the help of scouts of all ages to get it finished. His project involves the creation of two sidewalks at Nation Ford High School and will span the next two weekends.
This Saturday, December 10th, work will begin at 9am and will go until 4pm, if needed. Meet in the student parking lot near the stadium. Bring gloves, hammers, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and wear your work clothes. We will be digging out the area where the cement for the new sidewalks will be poured and making forms to keep the cement in place. Lunch will be provided for you. If we don’t get the forms finished on Saturday, we will plan on meeting on Sunday as well.
On Saturday, December 17th, at the same location we will actually be spreading cement to create the sidewalks and planting bushes for beautification. Work will begin at 9am.
If you’re planning on helping Michael, please call him at 803 396-0634 to let him know so he can make sure that he has an accurate count for lunch and drinks.
This is a great opportunity for Troop 108 scouts to get service hours toward their next rank and help out a fellow scout who needs our assistance.

It is that time of the year again, time to pay your dues for the year so the troop can register you to participate in the coming year.
Dues must be paid at the Court of Honor on December 6th, 2011.

Scouts who would like to earn service hours, eat good food and take in a great football game are in luck, an opportunity to do just that is coming up on December 17th as Troop 108 travels to Spartanburg to help the Shriners with the annual Shrine Bowl football game that pits many North Carolina high school football standouts against several South Carolina high school football standouts. All funds raised at the game goes to support the Shriners Hospital in Greenville, SC.
Cost is $5 for gas and each scout is responsible for his own meals. We will leave the scout hut at 7:30am and stop off at the Peach Blossom restaurant in Spartanburg for a big breakfast. Then we’ll make our way to Wofford College’s stadium to help out. The Shriners will serve us lunch for free and then once the game is over we’ll travel to the Beacon restaurant for a big supper before heading back to Fort Mill. Scouts will call their parents when we’re getting back in to Fort Mill to come pick them up at the scout hut at about 8pm. It is estimated that scouts will need about $15 to cover their meals for the day.
Scouts will need to print and fill out the permission slip below and bring it with them when they arrive on the 17th.

Troop 108 will have their Winter Court of Honor on Tuesday, December 6th at 6:30pm. Fanilies should bring a covered dish to share during fellowship time following the ceremony.
Parents report to the Unity Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall for a parent’s meeting and scouts report to the Scout Hut at 6:30pm to prepare for the night. Scouts will also vote on which of two camps they would like to attend next summer.
Both the scout’s summer camp choice and the new ASPL will be announced at this event.
We hope that all scouts and their parents will be able to attend this special night when we publicly recognize our scout’s achievements.
