Be Who You Is…

Several years ago Dan Cockerill was Scoutmaster of Troop 108 and he started a tradition that is carried forth at the end of each scout meeting.  All of the scouts and leaders form a large circle with arms crossed and holding each others hands.  There we recite a strange but insightful little saying that speaks volumes about what we, as leaders and parents, hope our scouts get out of the program.  It is followed by the traditional Scoutmaster’s Bennediction.  This little saying goes like this:

Be who you is

‘Cause if you be who you ain’t

You ain’t who you is

Truer words were never spoken.

The link below is of one such closing on November 18th, 2013.  On this night the closing was kicked off by the Hendel family as they closed their last meeting with Troop 108 before departing for their new start in Connecticut.
