We included some really great information on our troop webpage last year just before the Polar Bear campout. Good thing too, it got down to 8 degrees last year.
If you’d like to refer back to that information, just enter “cold weather camping” in the seach field at the top of this page and press the GO button to see all entries related to that subject.
I hope you enjoyed the Christmas break because now that the new year is here, things are getting busy again.
We are currently processing registrations for February’s Merit Badge College, Sign ups for next week’s Polar Bear Campout and paying our annual BSA dues. Here is the specific information and deadlines for these items:
Merit Badge College
The scouts should have already submitted their sign up sheets for this (if they haven’t, see Miss Donna to see if you can still get in). Remember that each class you sign up for cost $2.00 and lunch cost $4 or $5. Miss Donna needs both your registration and your money no later than the January 11th, 2010 meeting.
Polar Bear Campout
Scouts planning to attend the Polar Bear Campout need to return the signed permission slip and their $25 on January 11th, 2010. We will also be packing up our troop and personal gear in the troop trailer at this meeting. Obviously you won’t want to pack your cold weather gear like hats, gloves and coats, but you can put those in the daypack that you bring with you when you arrive at the scout hut to leave for the Polar Bear on Friday the 15th.
2010 Troop Dues and BSA Registration
Scouts should bring their $45 annual registration money to the January 11th, 2010 meeting. This money will register you with the BSA for another year, continue your subscription to Boys Life magazine and help to cover the cost of merit badges and advancements during the coming year. This also helps to cover other things like the repair or replacement of troop equipment, refilling of propane tanks and so on.
With the 100th Anniversay of Scouting in America, the webmaster decided to give the troop’s website a fresh new look – making sure to include the anniversary logo.
The larger of the two picture frames at the top of the page will rotate between pictures that we make available to it, so you should get a different picture in that frame each time you visit – at least until you cycle through the available pictures.
Also, you can click on the RSS icon just to the left of the frames to subscribe to the RSS feed for the troop’s webpage. This will deliver a copy of the latest posts to the website to your web browser or RSS reader – depending upon how you receive your RSS feeds.
We hope to fill out the website a bit this year by updating the history portion of the site and getting our patrol scribes involved in keeping their portions of the site updated.
We will also be placing some pre-made reports of various types that we think parents might find helpful in the “Troop 108 Secure Area” that will require a password to enter. This will keep the data safe from those outside of our circle. If you need this password, please let the webmaster or Scoutmaster know.
The new year is here, and with it comes the need for all youth members of the troop to pay their $45 annual troop dues. These dues keep you, the scout, registered in the BSA, gets you a subscription to Boys Life magazine and helps to cover the expenses associated with purchasing merit badges and rank advancement during the year. It also helps to cover other troop costs like canoe trailer or equipment trailer repairs, canoe repairs and/or maintenance, propane tank refilling and repairing or purchasing equipment for the troop.
Scouts who sold popcorn can choose to use some of the money that they earned from their sales to defray the cost of dues. Others can make a check out to “Troop 108, BSA”. Either way, the deadline for getting your dues to Ms. Donna is the Troop meeting on January 11th, 2010.
Troop leaders are keeping an eye on the developing weather situation and will be making a decision as to whether scouts will be traveling to Spartanburg to help with the annual Shrine Bowl game at Wofford College on Saturday.
