It is time for all units in the BSA to recharter for the coming year. That means that the leaders determine who is still active in our troop and submit the annual dues for each youth and adult member. Prior to 2010 annual dues were just $5 per year – affordable for most any scouting family. Then in 2010 it was raised to $10 a year. This year it was announced that the annual dues would be raised to $24 a year. That is quite a jump from years past. This article talks about the dues increase and what your money gets you.
On top of the annual dues paid to national BSA, Troop 108 also charges some additional money during the rechartering time to help cover the cost of troop operations like equipment purchase and repair as well as advancement awards for our scouts. That cost is an additional $26 dollars a year – for a total rechartering fee of $50 per scout per year.
Parents may also elect to have their scout receive Boys Life magazine if they wish, for an additional $11 per year – payable at rechartering time.
All rechartering payments are due by December 2nd, 2013. Those that we’ve not received payment from will not be included in our recharter for the 2014 year as the Troop can’t afford to front the money for rechartering for our scouts.
Congratulations to Troop 108 Eagle Scout and ASM “Michael” Alex Harllee as he graduates from Air Force basic training this week. Scoutmaster David Harllee and Senior Patrol Leader Dylan Harllee (pictured above) are in Texas along with Alex’s mom and aunt to cheer him on.
Scouts wishing to volunteer for Art On Main should meet at the Spratt Building on Main Street as close to 7am as possible. As usual, wear the full scout uniform with a scout t-shirt underneath.
We will work in t-shirt and put on the full uniform for the parade at 9:45am.
