Scouts planning to go to the shrine bowl on Saturday – remember that the Beacon doesn’t take debit cards , so be sure to bring plenty of cash for supper & money for the drivers to help cover gas.
Enjoy your time off and have a safe and Merry Christmas. We’ll see you at the first meeting of 2014!

The troop always sends a contingent of scouts down to Spartanburg to assist with selling programs, and concessions for the Shrine Bowl each December. The proceeds go to the Shriner Children’s Hospitals and our scouts not only have a great time, but earn service hours as well.
Scouts should bring money $5 for gas money as well as some money to eat breakfast on the way down and to dine at the famous Beacon for supper before returning home at the end of the day.

Several years ago Dan Cockerill was Scoutmaster of Troop 108 and he started a tradition that is carried forth at the end of each scout meeting. All of the scouts and leaders form a large circle with arms crossed and holding each others hands. There we recite a strange but insightful little saying that speaks volumes about what we, as leaders and parents, hope our scouts get out of the program. It is followed by the traditional Scoutmaster’s Bennediction. This little saying goes like this:
Truer words were never spoken.
The link below is of one such closing on November 18th, 2013. On this night the closing was kicked off by the Hendel family as they closed their last meeting with Troop 108 before departing for their new start in Connecticut.
It is with great sadness that we bid a fond farewell to the Hendel family as they prepare to depart to their new home in Connecticut. Rarely do you see an entire family involved in a single area of interest to all, but thankfully had had that in the Hendels. We were fortunate to have them involved in our Pack and Troop over the past few years and we hope that whatever troop they join in Connecticut knows just what a fantastic family they are getting. So goodbye new Eagle Scout Austin. So long Spencer. Take care Ms. Rose, and happy trails brother buffalo Kevin. You’ll be greatly missed by your scouting family here in Fort Mill and the Palmetto Council.
Troop 108 sweatshirts and hoodies are available for order through the troop meeting on November 25th, 2013. The flier for the sweatshirts is at the bottom of this post and the following are the prices.

We had a great Troop On Display event at Unity Presbyterian Church today. We set up a few of our tents, displayed one of our two equipment trailers, our Mad River Canoes and their trailer and our newly donated troop tipi.
The tipi was quite an attention grabber as travelers on Tom Hall Street often did a double-take as they passed by. Many thanks to Mr. Don Osmond for the donation of the tipi and poles to the troop. We will get a lot of use out of it in the years to come.
We had several visitors stop by and see the troop and our equipment and our scouts had a great time starting some merit badges, cooking and eating and playing football in the church’s front yard.
