Help Needed On Eagle Scout Project At NaFo High School

Michael Wagner, a local scout who is working on his Eagle Project, needs the help of scouts of all ages to get it finished.  His project involves the creation of two sidewalks at Nation Ford High School and will span the next two weekends.

This Saturday, December 10th, work will begin at 9am and will go until 4pm, if needed.  Meet in the student parking lot near the stadium.  Bring gloves, hammers, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and wear your work clothes.  We will be digging out the area where the cement for the new sidewalks will be poured and making forms to keep the cement in place.  Lunch will be provided for you.  If we don’t get the forms finished on Saturday, we will plan on meeting on Sunday as well.

On Saturday, December 17th, at the same location we will actually be spreading cement to create the sidewalks and planting bushes for beautification.  Work will begin at 9am.

If you’re planning on helping Michael, please call him at 803 396-0634 to let him know so he can make sure that he has an accurate count for lunch and drinks.

This is a great opportunity for Troop 108 scouts to get service hours toward their next rank and help out a fellow scout who needs our assistance.

Annual $45 Scout Dues Are Now Due

It is that time of the year again, time to pay your dues for the year so the troop can register you to participate in the coming year.
Dues must be paid at the Court of Honor on December 6th, 2011.

Shrine Bowl Service Project On December 17th

Scouts who would like to earn service hours, eat good food and take in a great football game are in luck, an opportunity to do just that is coming up on December 17th as Troop 108 travels to Spartanburg to help the Shriners with the annual Shrine Bowl football game that pits many North Carolina high school football standouts against several South Carolina high school football standouts.  All funds raised at the game goes to support the Shriners Hospital in Greenville, SC.

Cost is $5 for gas and each scout is responsible for his own meals.  We will leave the scout hut at 7:30am and stop off at the Peach Blossom restaurant in Spartanburg for a big breakfast.  Then we’ll make our way to Wofford College’s stadium to help out.  The Shriners will serve us lunch for free and then once the game is over we’ll travel to the Beacon restaurant for a big supper before heading back to Fort Mill.  Scouts will call their parents when we’re getting back in to Fort Mill to come pick them up at the scout hut at about 8pm.  It is estimated that scouts will need about $15 to cover their meals for the day.

Scouts will need to print and fill out the permission slip below and bring it with them when they arrive on the 17th.

Winter Court of Honor

Troop 108 will have their Winter Court of Honor on Tuesday, December 6th at 6:30pm.  Fanilies should bring a covered dish to share during fellowship time following the ceremony.

Parents report to the Unity Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall for a parent’s meeting and scouts report to the Scout Hut at 6:30pm to prepare for the night.  Scouts will also vote on which of two camps they would like to attend next summer.

Both the scout’s summer camp choice and the new ASPL will be announced at this event.

We hope that all scouts and their parents will be able to attend this special night when we publicly recognize our scout’s achievements.

Brunswick Stew Sale

Don’t forget that the troop is having a “movie night” event on Friday night followed by a Brunswick Stew Sale on Saturday from 10am to 2pm.

All movie night scouts should bring $5 to help cover the cost of hot dogs, chips and drinks for the movie night event. Those scouts spending the night on Friday night should bring their sleeping bag, change of clothes, toiletries and uniform for Saturday. Scouts not spending the night can call their parents to pick them up at the conclusion of the movie.

Don’t forget to turn in the money for any tickets that you sold (scouts signed out a sheet of six tickets at the November 7th meeting to sell). Unsold tickets or equivalent money MUST be turned in on FRIDAY NIGHT for scouts coming to movie night. Other scouts should turn theirs in at the stew sale.

Scouting For Food Bag Distribution – November 5th

Don’t forget that scouts all over the area – including our troop – will be distributing bags all over Fort Mill for the residents to fill for those less fortunate.

Bag distribution will take place on Saturday, November 5th – meet at the Scout Hut at 9AM to prep our bags and pass them out.

We will collect the filled bags from the same houses that we distributed them to on the following Saturday, November 12th.

Popcorn Order Counts Due At October 24th Meeting

Laura Cripe, 2011 Troop 108 Popcorn Chairman, needs a count of those items on your popcorn order sheet at
the October 24th meeting (Tomorrow Night).  She does not, however, need your actual popcorn order forms.

If you could make a list for her that has your scout’s name, phone number and email address and the items count for each item that he has orders for, that would be great.  Your sheet might look something like this:
